Making decisions about medical care can feel like walking through a maze of uncertainties. Often, we're faced with conflicting advice, daunting risks, and limited options. It's a delicate balance between what's best for our health and what feels right for us.

But amidst the confusion, there's a quieter voice we often overlook: our intuition. It's that gut feeling, that subtle nudge that tells us something is a “YES” or something is a “NO.” Yet, distinguishing between genuine intuitive signals and fears rooted in our past can be challenging.

Consider this: what if your fear of certain treatments isn't about the treatments themselves, but rather, a reflection of deeper wounds from your past? Perhaps you carry abandonment wounds from childhood, leading you to question whether anyone truly has your best interests at heart. This subconscious belief may color your perception of your care team, making you doubt their intentions and the safety of the proposed treatments.

When faced with medical decisions, it's crucial to untangle these threads of fear from genuine intuitive guidance. Your intuition, when clear and unclouded, can be a powerful compass. It speaks in whispers, nudging you towards what aligns with your true well-being.

For instance, imagine you're exploring treatment options for a chronic condition. Conventional medicine offers a standard treatment with known risks, while alternative therapies promise hope but less conclusive evidence. Amidst this complexity, your intuition might softly point towards a path less traveled, one that resonates with your inner knowing.

So how do you distinguish between fear-based resistance and genuine intuitive guidance? It begins with self-awareness. Take time to reflect on your fears, tracing them back to their roots. Exercise: Tracing Feelings to Their Origin

Set aside some time for yourself in a calm, quiet environment where you won't be interrupted. Start by taking a few deep breaths to center yourself. You can also try progressive muscle relaxation or meditation to quiet your mind. Think about the decision or situation that's causing the feeling. Notice the emotion that arises. Is it fear, anxiety, or a sense of unease? Or is it a calm, subtle knowing?

  1. Begin by writing down the feeling you're experiencing in the present moment. Describe it in detail: how it feels in your body, what thoughts accompany it, and any images or memories that come to mind.

  2. Now, imagine yourself going back in time, starting from the present moment and moving backward. Ask yourself: "When have I felt this way before?"

  3. Allow your mind to drift to your childhood or earlier experiences. Was there a moment in your past where you felt a similar emotion? It could be a specific event, a pattern of behavior from a caregiver, or a recurring theme in your early life.

Journaling Prompts:

  1. What memories or images come up from your past?

  2. How does this past experience relate to the feeling you're experiencing now?

  3. What beliefs or messages did you internalize from that past experience?

Reflect on the Connection:

As you explore this connection, notice if there are any insights or aha moments. Are there patterns or beliefs from your past that are influencing your present feelings?

Intuitive vs. Fear Responses:

Fear-Based Reactions: When a feeling is rooted in fear, it often comes with a sense of urgency, anxiety, or unease. You may feel a knot in your stomach, tightness in your chest, or racing thoughts.

Intuitive Responses: On the other hand, genuine intuition often feels calm, clear, and neutral. There's a sense of inner knowing, a quiet certainty that guides you without the heightened emotions of fear.

Reflection and Awareness:

After completing the exercise, take a moment to reflect on what you've discovered. Are there past wounds or beliefs that are influencing your current feelings? How does this awareness change your perspective on the situation?

Consider keeping a journal to track your intuitive insights and any patterns you notice over time. This can help you develop a deeper understanding of your intuition and how it communicates with you.

Remember, this exercise is about cultivating self-awareness and discernment. By tracing your feelings back to their origins, you can untangle the threads of fear from genuine intuition. Trust in your inner wisdom, and allow it to guide you towards decisions that align with your truest self.
